OMGWTF?!?

OK, so I was at work, and I came up with this rant that I wanted to put up. But when I got home, I thought a little more about my plans. Maybe I should explain what the rant would be about. It's about Christianity, folks. My big question is, how many people are friggin' sick to death about the "Christianity/Athiests/Agnostics argument"?

Everytime I talk to someone, or look around on the internet, or read a book, some form of religion is brought up sooner or later.

For instance, the reason I came up with this rant at work, was because a man came into the store to pay for his gas. The following conversation ensued:

Me: Hi there! Are you paying for the gas?

Crazy Christian: I sure am.

Me: Is there anything else I can do for you today?

Crazy Christian: World peace.

Me (taking it as a joke): You know, if I could do that, I would.

Crazy Christian: Jesus will do it for us.

Me:...

Crazy Christian: *random muttering about Jesus* He didn't die for nothing, you know.

Me:...

Well what does that mean? Did anyone else who ever died on a crucifix die for nothing? Do people today die for nothing? I know that the answer in some cases is "yes," but that doesn't change my point. What makes Jesus so special? Is it the whole immaculate conception thing? How do we know that even really happened? What if good old Joe was nothing more than the most gullible man in the world. Either that, or he was too blinded by "faith" that he didn't bother to think about the whole "I've never had sex with her, but she still got pregnant" thing. It's not possible she lied? Who would believe that? Seriously?

If God killed His own son to rid the world of sin, why is it still here? Is it because not enough people believe? Is it because not enough of the people who do believe, believe in the same thing? The Christian answer would be, "Well you see, God loves us so much, He gave us free will."

Well woop-dee-freaking-doo! Look what we do with free will! Do I even need to give examples? I don't think I'll bother. It's just too depressing for me.

The saddest part of the whole thing is, according to my (very) limited understanding of the Bible, you don't even need to be a good person to go to Heaven. All you need to do is accept Jesus as your saviour, and up you go. That means any one can get in! Murderers, Rapists, Bigots that rape their own children to keep the bloodline "racially pure." As long as they're sorry and they accept Jesus into their hearts...they're all set. What about their victims? The ones that are so screwed in the head (or dead)? Do they go to Hell because they were good people, but weren't Christians? What the hell kind of God would hand out reward and punishment like this? That's all you get?

"Good try, but not good enough!"

It shocks me that such a backwards religion has the following it does. Not only that, it's completely intolerant of any other faith. They're all heathens as far as the various sects of Christians are concerned.

I really should stop before I put my foot so far in my mouth it starts coming out my ass (unless that's already happened). I wonder if this will generate any flames at all?

As a final note, I hope I haven't alienated any of my friends or family with this little rant. As I've said, my understanding of the Bible is pretty limited. I'm sorry if I've gotten something wrong, but it doesn't change how I feel about the thousands of people who think I'm a bad person for the simple reason that I love someone and live with him out of wedlock.

I'm done now.

Whew...

Diane, I understand how you can be so upset over the whole of Christianity. As far as "organized religion" goes, I think it's about 90% crap. That being said, I am a Christian and I do believe the Bible fully.

I'll just pick one of the many valid points you raised and give you my own view.

"The saddest part of the whole thing is, according to my (very) limited understanding of the Bible, you don't even need to be a good person to go to Heaven. All you need to do is accept Jesus as your saviour, and up you go."

You need to repent of your sins, be sorry and change your ways. You need to accept Jesus as your savior, and you need to ask for and accept his forgiveness.

My whole life I have thought this was crappy that all kinds of people I know are good people and not Christian and there are terrible people who have done terrible things but on their death bed they confess and accept Jesus into their hearts and supposedly they go to heaven.

The thing we need to realize is that God is in control. This is His world and we are in it because He willed it.

I do not mean to throw anything in your face. I just wanted to give you my non-crazy Christian viewpoint.

Thanks.

Someone once said the only problem with Christianity was the Christians. World peace would only happen once everyone is dead or without any free will.

Lots of people misinterprit the Bible or put too much faith in something written in it that cannot happen (who knows about that though, it has been translated from several languages before its English incarnation). This "Crazy Christian" does in fact sound crazy, as he is looking forward to the second coming which, if he bothered to read the Bible, depicts Christ's wrath as a slaughter of... well... Biblical preportions. But then again, the Book of Revelations goes on about locusts with stingers poisoning everybody and locusts don't even have stingers, so who knows. Besides God, of course.

yeah, Nietzsche said "the last Christian died on the cross". I know lots of nice Christians who just live according to their principles and leave everyone else alone and that is cool. (Unless their principles involve homophobia or other bigotry).

But yeah Diane, I have to agree with you. That gas station guy was crazy. Jesus won't do shit for anyone. He wasn't there for the Rwandans (who are 97% Christian btw) and he sure as hell isn't there for any of us. People say "why does God let bad things happen". Simple. Because he is a construction of humans and humans let bad things happen. Same reason why he's always depicted as a big old white man with a beard. Human narcissism.

If I was God, I would smite me so hard for that. lol.

To Jayleigh at the top...Thank you for not only your input, but your understanding as well. It's really nice to know that there are still open-minded people who are religious at the same time.

I wouldn't say that Chritianity upsets me as a religion, so much as Christians who get the "Holier than thou" attitude, if you'll excuse the pun (or whatever you wanna call what I just said). I find that some people use the Bible as an excuse for their bahaviour.

What's to stop me from using "Lord of the Rings" as an excuse for my behaviour? I'll go on a quest, and kill the Dark Lord Sauron! It'll be great! No worries to the people or things I kill along the way...They were all evil anyway, right?
